The Herdscape Courses are an online programme designed for farmers, farm managers, advisors and students who want to transition from conventional, input-heavy farming to a regenerative, ecology-centered approach. Instead of focusing solely on production outputs, the course teaches participants the principles of how to restore and steward the natural systems that underpin profitable agriculture — soil biology, water cycles, nutrient flow, biodiversity and soil and veld health. Livestock are reframed as tools to regenerate landscapes, improve soil function and build long-term resilience, they are not merely units of production.

The Grazing Triangle and Herdscape Short Course will give you an overview of what is covered in the Herdscape Foundation Course, which is a much more comprehensive assessment of what you should know for the optimum outcome to your participation in the course. You will, however, be able to choose what parts of the course are of most value to you by skipping through those parts that may not seem relevant. If the part of the Foundation Course is listed as “Recommended Reading” please take the time to read or scan through it before marking as complete and moving to the next part. You can always come back to it later if you wish. However, you MUST complete everything that is directly related to the practice and outcomes of using regenerative methods for managing grazing and livestock. Those sections are marked as “Required Reading” and you will not be able to move on until they are complete. If you wish to have verification that you have completed the Herdscape Foundation Course then you must pass all the quizzes in the course.
